Week Notes 10
📝May 12th 2025- May 18th 2025
Nothing too much this week - mainly catching up with work and researching before a catch-up call with my thesis supervisor next week.
🌱 Highlights of the Week
- Had my Supernote Manta replaced!! I purchased a Supernote to ease my eyes from the strain of staring into my computer monitor, and I used it as a journal article reader and paper replacement. However, less than a week later, a bump formed on my e-ink screen, and a straight 'dead pixel' line formed on the top of my Manta. I reached out to the Supernote Malaysia team, and they sent a replacement just a few days after reporting the issue to them. Awesome stuff to see as they could've easily said it was a user error, etc. Would definitely try to share more on this :)
- Found out that two of my colleagues were getting married... to one another. This was a random one: one of my colleagues was OOO this entire week as she was getting married during the weekend, and I found out from my boss that another colleague was also going to be away. And it was because they were getting married to each other! That was a fun surprise.
- Finally got back to some emails from other bloggers! I've been procrastinating on my emails, and I do think I still have a few I have yet to reply but I'm so happy to make some progress. It's so nice to reconnect and read what others have sent me during the past few months.
🎬 Watched
- Started Severance Season 1 with my partner! He came over for a short weekend sleepover, and we decided to start it last night. He likes it so far, and I can't wait to show him all the memes and beautiful art I've come across, once we get further into the show, so those don't end up becoming spoilers.
- Finished Derry Girls Season 2. It's always fun with the girls, and also the one guy, haha (who is, according to the other girls, a Derry girl himself!) and thought the finale for this season was pretty cute. Derry Girls is such an easy, funny watch that I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short and sweet sitcom.
🎮 Played
Not much aside from a short game of Webfishing with my partner! It's a fun little game where you get to collect fish and complete a sort of 'pokedex' and upgrade your rods, baits, etc., to make faster progress. It's a game that is very conducive to gossip or just chat, as it doesn't require too much brainpower.
📖 Read
- Finished Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 1: The pacing of this manga is pretty fast (or perhaps this is just a normal speed and I've been conditioned to slow-paced fantasy books), but I am really digging the art style for the monsters in this one. I'll have to read more to know if I like the story, but it's intriguing enough for me so far that I do want to reach for the second volume.
- Read more of My Friends by Fredrik Backman: Fredrik has a very distinct writing style, and at times I find it a bit YA? Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it also feels like it might be intended for a younger audience. I am quite intrigued with the mystery behind the main character's relationship with the 'stolen' art and why the artist and his friend, Joar, separated.
- Listened to more of Careless People by Sarah-Wynn Williams: The audiobook has been well-narrated, and I think I'm just 1-2 hours shy away from the 50% mark? After every chapter I went through, it gets more convincing to me that most of the top executives in Facebook/Meta are just out to get more money for themselves :/
🎧 Listened To
The new Wolf Alice single! This is a pretty big departure from their previous music. I feel like this is almost as though they're deliberately going for that loud stadium rock sound that is intended to go as bombastic as possible. It's a blend of Bjork, old Wolf Alice, and perhaps... Fiona Apple? It's still very Wolf-Alice-ish as Ellie sings the chorus with her signature high melodic register. Very excited to see what the final album will be like!
