Week Notes 08
๐April 28 2025- May 4 2025
Quick note: This was written on the 5th and 6th of May.
๐ฑ Highlights of the Week
It was a long week of cramming for finals! The papers were alright... for the most part. I'm not super confident in the answers I've had, but at least I did not blank out or anything like that. The week was uneventful, as it was mostly spent studying, taking exams, and doing some work.
๐ฌ Watched
Watched an episode or two of Brooklyn 99 with my partner to relieve some stress from the examinations. I've forgotten how immature Jake was at the start of the show. I can't wait to get to the next few seasons where the character growth is more apparent.
๐ฎ Played
Honestly... nothing! Didn't have any desire to play any games for the week.
๐ Read
I started reading Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams. This is a memoir from Facebook's former global public policy director which has been racking in a lot of press and reviews. I'm still fairly early in the book, but the audiobook has made a pretty convincing case for me to further dislike Facebook.
๐ง Listened To
- The Scholars by Car Seat Headrest
- Most of my music last week was Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and Undertale soundtracks. I did make time during the weekend to check out the latest Car Seat Headrest album, and, it was pretty good! I'm not a fan of their older lo-fi stuff, but this was polished with a nice mix of prog rock and interesting lyrics. I'm hoping they continue in this direction.
- Some of the songs are a little too long for me, and I found myself losing attention, but overall a solid album.
- ๅ็ผบ [Moon Phases] by Enno Cheng
- This was a surprise album release (at least, to me!), and when I saw it pop up on my Spotify home screen, I was ecstatic. I wasn't too sure if she would ever release another album, seeing she seemed to be focused on doing some singles here and there, and some Taiwanese movie/show collaborations.
- This is quite a different direction from the previous album, whereby the last one had a more mando-pop vibe while this one is more experimental. Nothing too crazy, but it reminded me a lot of the type of music she had played during the concert she did in Malaysia, where it was just her guitar and her bandmate with an electronic keyboard and the computer creating some beats. There's still some nice instrumentation here, but I'll need to adjust. It's also a lot mellow (but not in a folk-chill way) than her usual stuff. I need to give this a few more spins to gauge whether I prefer it to her previous album, but so far, I would say her pop stuff still stands out to me a bit more.
