Week Notes 02
๐March 3 2025- March 9 2025
๐ฑ Highlights of the Week
- First (virtual) thesis meeting happened! After the whole thing last week where my supervisor accidentally missed out scheduling his email to cancel our meeting due to a conflict and causing my peers and I to spiral into 101 reasons why he didn't show up, it happened! We discussed each others' topics and he opened the floor to questions. I might be switching out my predictor to growth mindset and having the three dimensions of perfectionism (I'm using the tripartite model, probably...) as a dependent? I haven't gotten into more literature surrounding the growth mindset and its effects yet, but I got the green light to further explore this route.
- We finished two assignments and one mid-term this week! Three if we're counting one that's due next Tuesday. It's nearing the peak, and things are starting to pile.
- A client who is a bit older finally decided to download Chrome after some hiccups that has been happening to him for a specific software that the entire team knew was because he was using Safari. We were celebrating lol when we got the email. It was a really random win.
๐ฌ Watched
The latest episode of Severance! Oh myyyyyy... this was a treasure-trove of new insights into Ms. Cobel's character. She has been one of the most interesting characters from the start of the show, and although the episode is slow, it unfolded her motives throughout her leadership of the Severed floor so well! Now we know that she was the person who invented Severing and came up with the actual science behind it, and not an Eagan, the random rich guy that is just using everyone as his pawns (including his daughter wtf).
The ending was also such a cliff-hanger. And honestly, I think Severance has been doing a super great job at ending episodes and making people yearn for the next episode for the next 7 days. Anyways, Devon is calling Ms. Cobel AGAIN. But, I think that Ms. Cobel might help Mark, but, from the outside. I'm 80% sure that her motives will be very much selfish considering everything, and... I'm here for it!
๐ฎ Played
- Pokemon Yellow: I defeated a gym this week, I can't remember it anymore but the guy was using a whole lot of Pokemon's with the Drowsy move. And, I got to Saffron City!
- Stardew Valley: I played 2 days with my sister earlier this noon. We've been working on my farm (as hers is maxed out haha) and I was mainly tending to my many many plants and making new pickled jars while she was trying her best to upgrade the pickaxe. She went to Robin instead of Clint and wasted one day rushing there. But that's all good now.
๐ Read
- Finished Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl via audio! The book is more personal than it is compared to something like The Perfectionism Trap by Thomas Curran, but I still found it a good read. The general thesis (at least for me) is that meaning can be found, despite or in spite of suffering. I haven't read much on logotherapy before this, but that's definitely something I want to explore now. Random tip that I got from this book: If you're struggling to fall asleep, don't try your best to fall asleep. Try your best to stay awake instead.
- Almost finished with The Crimson Crown by Heather Walter. I read her Malice Duology when they released, and enjoyed them. This one is a sapphic retelling of Snow White's queen (Malice is a Malificent retelling) and so far, I think I prefer the pacing of this one! The lore behind the magic is probably the weakest aspect of the story, but I think the generally the court politick-ing was interesting enough that when the romance aspect of things was in the background, I still found myself flipping throught the pages. I'm about 100 or so pages till the end, and I did just learn that this is also part of a duology! Honestly I was kind of disappointed as I thought I could see some sort of resolution for the story, but yay for new reading material next year?
- Continued listening to Howling Dark by Christopher Ruocchio. It's still slow imo - but I'm going to try to get to the half way point before deciding if I want to take a pause on this!
๐ง Listened To
- Best of Mother/EarthBound Music
- Mainly during my study sessions. I don't know too much about the series, but I absolutely love the music!
- Happy Birthday by Black Country, New Road
There was a time where I was continuously listening to the first two BC,NR albums! I honestly didn't really catch up with the new stuff much when Isaac, the previous lead singer left. I felt that the music didn't have the same charm it once had?
But I'm really loving the new tracks from the current album roll-out, the vocals work great and as always the instrumentation is on point.
- Mayhem by Lady Gaga
- First time listening to Gaga on the day of a new album release! My sister and I listened to this on the way home on Friday (in a 2 hour traffic jam...) and it was a fun listen. We agreed that she sounded like she was using a different register than her usual in some of the songs here (compared to the older stuff at least, as we are both not caught up with her music). It was a nostalgic and non-nostalgic experience haha. Fun stuff and I think it sounded great using the car speakers.
๐ Noteworthy Links
- P&B: James โ Manu
- I love reading Manu's interviews. And I love James' blog! Loved reading this, and if you haven't visted James' blog yet, please do. I was inspired by his vertical navigation bar so much so that I changed my css theme. I love his personal way of writing and he has many musings on technical writing, which I find interesting, and about the indie-web.
- The past, present, and future of Interactive fiction and Harvesting Interactive Fiction
I've been reading a lot about the world of interactive fiction. It's very fascinating to me as I had a phase where I made "paper games" and I wonder if I took a different route and made similar things like these or even alternatively simple choose-your-adventure-games, would I have been a different person?
This led me to trying out the Depression Quest game which was made using Twine, an open-source and free platform commonly used to make these interactive stories. I thought it was an interesting concept, and led me to think about the possibilities of this, even outside of making games/books. Something like Depression Quest could be created to make short games to create awareness for diverse psychological experiences in an interesting medium.
I might give it a go to see if it's something I want to try out - I think the mesh of interactivity and writing is very fascinating, for sure!
Considering writing an article to compile all the stuff I learnt about the topic and some links to the resources as well.
- Dementia - Getting diagnosed
- Discovered this channel where an Australian man gets diagnosed with Dementia and is presently uploading videos about his experience. I've only watched the linked video, and it's honestly scary for me to think about how this is a reality of many people, and how there could be a possibility for it to happen to myself.
- The Innioasis Y1 - Mp3 Player | Brandon's Journal
- How to get into (or catch up with) the mainline Pokรฉmon games | Azhdarchid
- I write my diaries on Google Calendar | Traveling + others?
- 209. For the defense of the travel romance | my thoughts are marbles, roll with me
- How do you know it is finished? | Talking about the world
